Women’s Section
The Area of Woman of the City council of Barakaldo canalizes the demands of the women of Barakaldo. It tries to respond to the silenced restlessness of the women and to smooth the way to the real and effective equality between men and women.
The section has a number of different services, as follows:
- Women’s Advice Unit providing comprehensive free legal advice. Applications for an appointment in person at the Unit.
- Psycho-social Treatment Unit for women who have suffered abuse, providing specialist psychological treatment for the victims of sexual abuse, and those around them.
- Tele-assistance service for women who have suffered abuse, with mobile telephone numbers to call for urgent assistance by the police for cases where there is a risk of attack, and psychological support for women who require this service.

Municipal Consumer Advice Office (OMIC)
The Municipal Consumer Advice Office (OMIC) is a free service which Barakaldo Town Hall provides via Inguralde, for anyone buying, using or enjoying a product or service and who is therefore entitled to certain rights:
- The right to protection of health and safety.
- The right to protection of their social and economic interests.
- The right to proper information.
- The right to education and training in consumer affairs.
- The right to representation, consultation and participation.
- The right to protection in situations of inferiority.
- The right to compensation for damages.
The OMIC provides assistance with:
Information on rights and means of solution to any conflicts which may arise following purchases or hiring of services.
Procedures for claims and complaints.
Information on other consumer bodies.
The Permanent Consumer Unit.
Training in consumer affairs with respect to accommodation, insurance, banking services, "miracle products", home delivery services, the environment, travel, supplies, technical assistance and automobiles.
Addiction Prevention Service
This is a personalised Citizen Attention Service (by appointment only) open to anyone from Barakaldo. This service provides professional advice and information on drug addiction.
